Carson City Nevada was confirmed as Nevada's Capitol with statehood in 1864, and the development of the city was no longer at the mercy of the Comstack mines. The discovery of gold in 1859 threw Carson City into economic prosperity, making it a commercial center in the West. The City was named after "Kit" Carson, a famous frontiersman and a legend in the West. In 1960 Carson City regained it's 1860 population levels, and in 1969 Ormsby County was merged into Carson City to assist in governmental affairs. With it's area of 146 square miles, Carson City is now one of America's largest State Capitals...
